Expert Battery Maintenance - Keeps Your Equipment Running
A dead battery means downtime, and that means decreased productivity and profits. We know your battery won't last forever, but by recommending a few simple battery maintenance techniques, we can help you maximize its life. Plus, your Cat dealer can determine your battery's condition at any time with the Cat Battery Diagnostic Tool. Together, we can keep your battery working and your machine up and running.
Battery Maintenance for Long Life
Recommended Battery Charges
If you need to charge your battery, we recommend that you use a slow charge. With a fast charge, you run the risk of overheating the battery, which can boil out the water and buckle the plates.
Proper Battery Storage
Using the right storage techniques can help extend the life of your Cat® battery. For storage periods of four weeks or more, you should disconnect the battery cables. If they are left connected in cold weather, your battery may discharge and freeze. If you store your machine in an unheated area during the winter, make sure to remove the battery and store it in a room with a constant 40-50 F (5-10 C) temperature.
Early Battery Diagnosis
Your Cat dealer can determine your battery's pre-charge condition with the Cat Battery Diagnostic Tool. Using new technology called conductance testing, this tool measures your battery's internal ability to conduct current and diagnoses its actual state of health. It performs four battery tests in 15 to 20 seconds and is portable, so your dealer can quickly test your battery in the shop or field.
The Cat Battery Diagnostic Tool:
- Identifies batteries with bad cells
- Determines battery condition
- Measures voltage to see if your battery needs recharging
- Checks the battery's cranking power
Not only does the Cat Battery Diagnostic Tool tell your battery's condition, but it also tells you where the battery is in its lifespan. That means you can identify necessary battery maintenance before failure.
