Common Fleet Pays Dividends for DOT

With the purchase of 56 Cat® 246C Skid Steer Loaders, the West Virginia Department of Transportation’s Division of Highways is able to work more efficiently while maintaining the state’s more than 37,000 miles of public roadways.
By purchasing a common platform of equipment for use in all 10 DOT districts and 55 counties, Work Tools may be shared among agencies, which wasn’t possible previously. Work tools including cold planers, buckets, brooms, forks and augers, enhance the productivity of the skid steer loaders.
With all the different work tools, the skid steer loaders are eliminating the need for some other machines. Among the other benefits:
- The ability to share work tools.
- A streamlined parts inventory.
- Trained technicians are able to work on all machines.
- Common controls reduce operator training time and provide greater safety.
