Caterpillar® Mechanically Attached Shroud System Installs Easily and Protects Underground Mining Loader Buckets
For Worldwide Release: September 2008
Release Number: 342PR08
The new Caterpillar® Mechanically Attached Shroud System provides extended cutting-edge life for buckets used on three Cat® underground loader (LHD) models, the R1700G, R2900G and R2900G XTRA. The shroud system features “hammerless” installation and removal, allowing safe, fast shroud segment changes for reduced downtime and increased productivity.
Requiring no special tools for installation and removal, the new shroud segments are retained via a simple mechanical system that incorporates a locking pin and retaining piston secured with a cap screw. Because the locking system is positioned at the rear of the shroud segment, system components are protected from wear and are easy to access.
The design of the new Mechanically Attached Shroud System affords protection for both the top and bottom surfaces of the bucket lip, and the shroud segments feature increased wear material to prolong service life. For the safety of the technician and to facilitate installation, shroud segments incorporate a lifting eye, which can be rigged with an appropriate sling for positioning.
Caterpillar ground engaging tools for underground mining machines are available through Cat dealers. For more information about the Mechanically Attached Shroud System, customers should contact their Caterpillar dealer or visit the Caterpillar website at www.cat.com.
