Caterpillar extends presence at Marintec China 2007 exhibition
Hamburg, Germany – Caterpillar Marine Power Systems (CMPS) will present a full range of products and services at Marintec China 2007, this year’s most important international marine trade show, being held in Shanghai November 27-30. Following its successful 2005 presence, which initiated a lot of business, CMPS will again display full-size Cat® and MaK marine diesel engines, a wealth of customer support solutions and finance and insurance packages offered by Caterpillar® Financial Services. Videos and backlights will provide the latest information on engine technology, emissions compliance and a wide range of vessel applications. The CMPS Asia Pacific team, which is joining forces with CMPS specialists from around the world, along with Caterpillar dealer personnel and the Cat Finance crew, are all looking forward to discussing new business opportunities and to welcoming existing CMPS customers.
“We will demonstrate Caterpillar’s ability to provide integrated marine solutions for the global ocean-going, commercial and pleasure craft markets, ranging from project design to the commissioning of complete propulsion systems, covering ship financing and customer support agreements, and including a variety of logistics, remanufacturing and related services for ship owners and operators world-wide”, said Florian Gruber, Managing Director Caterpillar Marine Asia Pacific. “However”, Gruber emphasised, “we will also underscore our approach of acting as a responsible business partner even in buoyant markets, making every possible effort to overcome existing supply chain constraints and meet our customers’ demand.”
The CMPS stand will be number 1 A 20 in hall W1, close to the main entrance. It comprises 150 square metres of exhibition space on the ground floor and a meeting area with another 65 square metres on the second floor. Visitors will receive in-depth information about the MaK family of medium-speed marine engines with a power range of 1,020-16,000 kW and the complete Cat marine product line comprising propulsion engines from 93 to 5,650 bkW, auxiliary engines from 162 to 5,420 bkW and generating sets from 12 to 5,200 ekW.
The eye-catcher on the ground floor will be a MaK 6 M 32 C medium-speed marine engine. Introduced to the market in 1994, the M 32 series is recognised for its reliability and durability world-wide. Following the presentation of the M 32 C version with 500 kW per cylinder in 2000, the M 32 C also became the first MaK engine series to be available with Caterpillar Common Rail (CCR) in 2006. The M 32 C can be supplied as 6, 8 and 9 cylinder in-line and 12 or 16 cylinder vee-type versions, each with 480 or 500 kW power per cylinder, producing a power range of 2,880-8,000 kW. Caterpillar Marine Power Systems has to date sold more than 1,250 M 32 series marine engines – roughly 80% of them for main propulsion and 20% for genset usage. More than 800 engines with at total power of 3,000 MW are now in service. The MaK M 32 C has been the preferred choice of power in three major application areas: the propulsion of cargo vessels like container feeders and coasters, the propulsion of commercial vessels, especially offshore supply vessels, and as generator drives for on-board electrical supply on big cargo and passenger vessels.
Representing the Cat brand is a C18 marine generating set suitable for both commercial and pleasure craft applications. This genset is also available as MCS-certified (Marine Classification Society-certified) package that will arrive at shipyards ready for simple plug-and-play installation. Featuring eight different power ratings, the 18.1-liter displacement, electronically controlled C18 in-line six-cylinder engine provides an excellent power-to-weight ratio. The C18 genset utilises ACERT™ Technology components, which combine to minimize smoke and reduce emissions. Specifically, ACERT Technology provides the latest in fuel delivery, electronics, air management and combustion chamber design. A unique piston, ring and liner design reduces blow-by gases by 50%, and a high-efficiency fume-recirculation system keeps the engine and engine room clean. The C18 genset is EPA and IMO-compliant and is capable of meeting other current emissions regulations.
As well as new marine engines, the programmes for Cat and MaK genuine spare parts, preventive maintenance parts and remanufactured components will also be on display. So too will a multitude of options for customer support agreements in ocean-going and commercial shipping and for pleasure craft engines. Real-size examples of exhaust valves, nozzle elements and other M 32 C parts will provide hands-on experience of MaK manufacturing excellence. A comparison between used and remanufactured Cat and MaK cylinder heads will demonstrate the “as-new” quality of such components. CMPS marine experts will be on side at all times to answer specific customer questions. In addition most of the Caterpillar Asia Pacific dealerships will have their representatives on the stand, among them The China Engineers Ltd, ECI-Metro Engineering Machinery Service Co. Ltd, Lei Shing Hong Machinery Ltd and WesTrac China Ltd.
“Marintec China 2007 will provide visitors with a one-stop shop for the whole range of marine-related services Caterpillar has to offer”, Florian Gruber pointed out. “Our teams for MaK and Cat branded marine products will form a four-day centre of expertise on Caterpillar Marine Power, and we are very much looking forward to meeting customers and discussing prospects at the Shanghai New International Expo Centre.”
