After 40-plus years in the scrap hauling and recycling business, Mike Hitchcock has grown accustomed to the longevity and reliability of Cat equipment. So when he learned Caterpillar was entering the vocational truck business, he jumped at the chance to be one of the first owners of the new Cat® CT660.
“We got the first truck in Illinois,” says the owner of Hitchcock Scrap Yard in Canton, Illinois, “and then we went all out and bought eight.”
That decision is proving to be a smart one. Hitchcock and his drivers are impressed with the Cat Truck’s handling, stability, ride and turning radius, as well as the performance of the optional Cat CX31 automatic transmission.
“The automatic transmission is probably one of the best aspects of the truck,” one of Hitchcock’s drivers says. “The driver comfort and layout of the truck is great. The instrument panel is easily seen, and the gauges and switches are easily accessible. Everything is within hands’ reach.”
Plus, with the Cat Truck, Hitchcock continues to get what he expects from Caterpillar: a tough, durable product backed by the industry’s best on-the-ground support.
“Everything works as well as the other equipment we’ve bought from Caterpillar,” he says, and when it comes to Cat dealer Altorfer, “they understand if we have an issue or need a part, and they react quickly. We don’t have much downtime when it comes to service or parts.”
The end result is a fleet of trucks Hitchcock can count on—and one he’s proud to own.
“There’s absolutely no comparison,” he says. “The truck is totally different, and when you see it coming down the road it’s a standalone thing. There’s nothing like it. It’s just an awesome piece of equipment.”
The Cat® Truck is a seriously powerful truck built for seriously productive work—a natural extension of Caterpillar's rugged product line. It all starts with a strong foundation that’s made to handle whatever vocational body or equipment your application requires.Visit Website
