Caterpillar: supporting agriculture through associations

Agriculture Industry Association Support

While you respect the land, Caterpillar respects your time. To ensure you maximize each workday, we take an active role in influential agriculture trade associations that have a real impact on industry issues affecting your livelihood.

Through our affiliation with these associations, Caterpillar team members are able to build a relationship with industry professionals to ensure your needs are met on the ranch or farm. This has led directly to recent machine improvements with regard to safety, emissions and technology. Firsthand customer feedback helps Caterpillar design machines so agriculture professionals can accomplish specific goals to keep their businesses running strong – all day long.

“Caterpillar puts a lot of energy and resources into our association partnerships because we want to know how to best serve our agriculture customers,” said Dustin Johansen, Agriculture Industry Manager, Caterpillar. “Playing a key role with these groups – through membership, sponsorship and education – helps us hear the voice of the customer. That is very important for us, and often leads to changes and improvements to equipment.”

Caterpillar is an active member and proud sponsor of the following agriculture industry associations:

  • Alberta Beef Producers (ABP)
  • American Farm Bureau (AFB)
  • British Columbia Agriculture Council (BCAC)
  • National Cattlemen’s Beef Association (NCBA)
  • Union des producteurs agricoles (UPA)
  • Professional Bull Riders (PBR)

Taking an active role in key industry associations and groups is one more way that Caterpillar associates are keeping their finger on the pulse of the latest industry trends and best practices, which helps agriculture customers put more hours in their day.

Committed to the efforts of the FFA and AAW

Caterpillar designs industry-leading machines and equipment that are engineered to solve agricultural industry work. But the machines you see on farms and ranches across the United States are just one aspect of our commitment.

The Future Farmers of America (FFA) is an important organization that gives young people hands-on career experience. For Caterpillar, it’s a great incubator of future employees and business leaders.

Through the FFA, Caterpillar seeks to enhance awareness of employment opportunities, products and services to the agriculture segment by collaborating with the industry’s leading youth organization. Caterpillar support includes:

  • Co-sponsoring the National Agriculture Technology and Mechanical Systems Career Development Event
  • Supporting 15 Supervised Agricultural Experience (SAE) grants in the beef, dairy, landscape management and construction management
  • Sponsoring the Outstanding Teacher Award at the National Association of Agriculture Educators annual convention
  • Participating in the national convention with an educational trade show display
  • Providing judges for state and national contests

In addition to a Caterpillar FFA alumni chapter organization, our dealer network has engaged on the local and state level to support their respective FFA organization.

Since females represent 30% of all farm operators, Caterpillar also works closely with American Agri-Women (AAW). Established in 1974, the organization is the nation’s largest coalition of women who work in agribusiness.

AAW and Caterpillar develop opportunities for Cat® dealers to engage with the AAW network of more than 50 state and affiliate organizations, which represents nearly 40,000 farm, ranch and agri-business women. Together, safety and affiliate engagement programs help the partnership grow at the national, regional and local level.

Caterpillar supports AAW by providing educational materials that promote safety, including equipment operation and management best practices. Women play a vital role in modern farming and ranching operations, and Caterpillar wants to ensure they have the tools and resources their businesses demand.

The extensive Caterpillar product line reflects our company’s commitment to both the FFA and AAW, as well as the ongoing success of American agriculture and rural businesses.

EP News: CHP a powerful combination for plants

Energy efficiency is rapidly becoming an essential part of building and operating competitive industrial plants. Combined Heat and Power (CHP) makes good bottom-line sense. The changes give the plant the ability to keep operating during power outages and disasters, boosting its productivity, wins federal and state tax breaks and, finally, functions as a power station during off hours by selling excess electricity back into the grid.
