As the port of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria becomes an increasingly strategic destination for offshore marine and oil and gas vessels and platforms, Cat® dealer Barloworld Power is more prepared than ever to serve Caterpillar marine and oil and gas customers. In November 2012, Barloworld opened a 1,600 sq meter facility in Las Palmas, with trained technicians capable of servicing the complete comprehensive line of Cat and MaK marine and oil and gas power solutions. The facility’s strategic location enables vessels and platforms travelling to and from South America, Africa and the Mediterranean to receive the legendary Cat dealer support and service from a logistically convenient location.
Since the facility opened, Barloworld has seen a surge of demand for the onsite repairs and services that can be performed at the Las Palmas facility. Recently, Barloworld performed a complete overhaul onboard the Cajun Express semisubmersible platform. Three Cat C280 generator sets, each of which provides 4.6 megawatts of rated power to the platform, were overhauled in collaboration with the Astican shipyard. After the overhaul was complete, Barloworld conducted extensive testing on the electrical and alarm systems to ensure maximum reliability. The complete repair restored the power solutions to their original condition and was performed on time by the locally trained team of engineers and service technicians. With an established local presence, having operated for over 50 years in the region, Barloworld is uniquely equipped to a broad spectrum of marine and oil and gas service and support projects, regardless of size.
