Caterpillar Secures Complete Propulsion Systems Order for Remolcadores Marracoi SL (REMARSL)

Hamburg, Germany - Caterpillar Marine is pleased to announce Cat® power and propulsion solutions have been selected to provide an optimized tug package for a 55T ASD tug new build for Remolcadores Marracoi SL (REMARSL). Two Cat 3512C EPA IMO II propulsion engines have been selected to power the tug as well as 2x  MTA 523FP Azimuth thrusters. Each Cat 3512C marine propulsion engine will provide 2x1765 kw @1800 rpm of rated power. Auxiliary power will be delivered through 2 x Cat C9 engines. The vessel will be constructed at Freinaval shipyards in Spain. Cat dealer Finanzauto led Caterpillar efforts on the project. Completing the comprehensive Caterpillar efforts on the sale was Cat Financial, who was able to deliver a stellar financial package for the customer.

Steerable with a custom-made controllable or fixed pitch propeller, Cat Azimuth thrusters are available in both L-drive and Z-drive configurations. Customizable options include an innovative feathering BCP hub for even more vessel flexibility and efficiency. Based on a modular principle, most components are used in other Cat Propulsion products ensuring a proven, reliable design. Other benefits include low levels of noise and vibration as well as simplified installation and maintenance.

Manufactured in Lafayette, Indiana, the Cat 3512C is a vee-12 cylinder diesel engine with a 170 millimeter bore by 215 millimeter stroke and 58.6 liter displacement. The constant-speed 3512C engine offers the latest in electronic fuel system capabilities and state-of-the-art ADEMTM A4 Electronic Control Units (ECU).  The electronic “power station” concept creates efficiencies between the control units, unit injectors, instrumentation and displays to perfectly balance power supply, fuel consumption and exhaust emissions at any given load. Featuring industry-leading reliability and durability, the Cat 3512C platform is a simple and proven design that delivers ease of maintenance and outstanding fuel efficiency.
