Caterpillar Unveils Cat® Low Emission Engine Upgrade for G3516 LE Petroleum Engines

For Worldwide Release: January 2014
Release Number: GP14PR2

Upgrade Offers Minimally Invasive Lowered Emissions for Gas Compression Applications

Houston, TX – Caterpillar Oil & Gas is pleased to announce the availability of a Cat® Low Emission Engine Upgrade kit for select G3516 LE petroleum engines in gas compression applications. The upgrade kit allows operators to modify existing engines to a lower emission configuration, enabling operation at 0.5 or 1.0 g/bhp-hr NTE NOx levels. The engine upgrade is an economic, minimally invasive solution that allows the engine to offer the same power and fuel tolerance while simultaneously increasing altitude and turndown capability. The upgrade kits are now available for global customers to order from the worldwide Cat Dealer Network.

“We are committed to continuously introducing solutions that power our customers to better performance while meeting the more stringent emissions standards as the world leader in gas engine technology,” said Brenna Geswein, Caterpillar Oil & Gas application engineer. “We designed the Low Emission Engine Upgrade kit for the G3516 LE to be installed as quickly and easily as possible without sacrificing any dimension of the engine’s performance in gas compression applications.”

The power rating for the G3516 LE will remain the same at 1340 bhp @ 1400 rpm. The upgrade kit utilizes existing technology and proven parts; trained experts at customers’ local Cat dealer are available to bring current engines up to the latest technology level, regardless of where the engine is in its lifecycle. New components in the kit include a two-stage aftercooler, venture fuel mixer, turbochargers, oil cooler, air cleaners, gas shutoff valve and software. Existing engines must have the ADEM™ A3 engine control module, Air Fuel Ratio Control (AFRC) and a NOx sensor. Upgrade kits are available to bring engines up to this configuration.
