FORESTRY SAFETY

Many factors contribute to Forestry & Logging being one of the most dangerous occupations. The tools and heavy equipment they use in the work zones pose many hazards. It is important that the personnel are trained to handle the risks associated with the falling, rolling and sliding of the heavy trees/logs. The environment also contributes to additional hazards on the jobsite. Rough terrain, harsh weather conditions and remote working locations all present an increased safety risk to the employees working in this industry.

FORESTRY SUSTAINABILITY

Sustainability--including economic, social and environmental considerations in business--matters to our Customers, our Business, our Team and our World.

It is Caterpillar’s view that the only way to protect our forests from destruction is to guarantee their economic value; only then will action be taken to conserve them. And the best way to achieve this is through sustainable forest management. For this reason, Caterpillar has been involved with the Tropical Forest Foundation (TFF) since its formation in 1990. The TFF is an international, non-profit, educational institution committed to advancing environmental stewardship, economic prosperity, and social responsibility through sustainable forest management (SFM).

For 20 years, TFF has fostered dialogue and alliances among industry, government, and academia, as well as the research and conservation communities to improve tropical forest management and increase the economic value of these forests for those who depend upon its bounty for their livelihood.

By supporting the activities of the TFF, Caterpillar is making a clear and unequivocal commitment to environmental conservation and to the principles of sustainable development.
