Carolina Cat Forges New Trails
Corporate Sponsor to Develop Beech Mountain Trail System and Host USA Cycling's National (Mountain) Bike Championship
When one thinks of Cat® equipment on a jobsite the typical projects come to mind…land clearing, site preparation, residential and commercial real estate construction, underground utility installations, etc. At Beech Mountain Resort, add to the list the use of Cat equipment to assist construction of a professional competitive mountain bike trail system to be used for the upcoming USA Cycling National Mountain Bike Gravity Championship September 22-25.
Beech Mountain Resort, Beech Mountain, NC was awarded a two-year contract to host the National Gravity Championships. Carolina Cat customer and general contractor, Christopher Herndon - a Brevard, NC native and 2007 Dual Slalom National Champion - designed and constructed the world-class trail system and intricate slalom course with use of a Cat 289C Compact Track Loader and Cat 304C Mini Hydraulic Excavator.
Herndon attributes an on-time completion of this project to the responsiveness of Carolina Cat and Cat equipment. "These are amazing machines…they're fast, strong and don't bog down!" "Cat machines helped us get this job done efficiently, especially because we had to be within a tight grade tolerance."
In addition to hosting the 2011-2012 USA Cycling Championships, Beech Mountain Resort has additional expansion plans for year-round operations. Beech Mountain is scheduled to open Beech Bike Park in 2013 for spring, summer and fall operations. Additional operations will include bike rental, amateur and professional riding trails, and a high speed ski lift outfitted for mountain bikes.
