Years of on-the-job research by Caterpillar point to the need for versatility on tandem vibratory rollers. The three Cat vibratory system options cover the entire range of compaction requirements. High frequency with lower amplitudes is available when high working speed is needed to match pavers operating at consistently high speeds. Low frequency with higher amplitudes can be selected when the primary requirement is high compaction energy to create density in thick, harsh mats.

Cat vibratory systems hold up under extreme conditions because of the sealed pod design that is assembled in special "clean" rooms to prevent contamination in the oil bath lubrication. On some models, vibratory systems include the patented Cat eccentric weight design that is hollow and partially filled with steel shot. There is no possibility of introducing metal flakes into the bearing lube oil because there is no contact between moving counterweights.
