What’s Best: Full Pass or Top Off?

Should wheel loader operators stick with full passes, or take the time to top off loads with a partial pass if that is necessary to achieve rated payloads?
The tradeoff is less truck wait time versus more payload per truck cycle.

  • On short hauls, when trucks are waiting to be loaded, you could find that greater productivity comes from putting on even passes to reduce wait time.
  • On longer hauls or when trucks are limited, it pays to put on a partial pass to ensure trucks are fully loaded at rated payload.
  • Never do a partial pass if you are fully trucked up.
