Cat® F-Series Excavators Are Built For Unique Business Needs

For Release in Australia & New Zealand: June 2016
Release Number: 246PR16

Introduction of the Cat® 313F L, 315F L, 316F L, and 318F L completes the Caterpillar range of 11-to-90-tonne F-Series hydraulic excavators that meet U.S. EPA Tier 4 Final/EU Stage IV emissions standards.

Goals for the Caterpillar F-Series program focused on six key areas:

  • Engine— Reduced emissions; economical, reliable performance
  • Operator Station— Comfort and convenience for productive operators
  • Hydraulics— Optimum power, speed, and precise control
  • Structures/Undercarriage— Long-term durability in severe applications
  • Front Linkage— Application-specific configurations and long service life
  • Work Tools— Versatility and greater value with each machine

“Caterpillar focuses on understanding each customer’s unique business needs and then matches the right excavator to those needs,” says Brian Abbott, worldwide product manager for the company’s small excavator platform. “Large and mid-size Cat F-Series models have been working on jobs around the world for more than a year, and customers report that their machines are delivering on the stated design goals, including exceptional fuel efficiency—material moved per unit of fuel. The 313F L, 315F L, 316F L, and 318F L are designed for the same positive customer experience.”

313F L

The 313F L uses a powerful Cat C4.4 ACERT engine with two power modes, high and economy, to actively manage fuel consumption. An engine-idle-shutdown system saves fuel, reduces emissions, and extends service intervals. Advanced controls automatically manage pump and engine speed for optimum efficiency. The machine features a full-size cab with a ROPS, adjustable joystick controls, and an air-suspension seat with heating/cooling options. Auxiliary hydraulic circuits are available to support a wide range of work tools that can be rapidly changed via an available quick coupler.

315F L

The 315F L is a compact-radius machine designed for space-restricted work, such as road projects with lane closures and working adjacent to structures. With a front-swing radius of 2.27 m and a tail-swing radius of 1 530 mm, the 315F L can dig, swing, and dump within a working circle of 3.8 m. When rotated 90 degrees and working over the side, the counterweight extends beyond the track only 135 mm. The 315F L, as do all F-Series models, features a ROPS-certified cab, low interior sound levels, optimum visibility, convenient controls, and fully adjustable seat.

316F L

The 316F L combines productivity and versatility in an easy-to-transport package. An available work-tool coupler allows changing attachments quickly, and a wide range of Cat buckets allows matching digging requirements to the application—from top-soil removal, to excavating  abrasive material, to ditch cleaning and fine grading. A multi-processor or shear can equip the 316F L for demolition applications, and a thumb and rake allows moving debris quickly.

318F L

The 318F L is competitively positioned against non Cat 18-tonne models. The new model delivers more lift, breakout force, and production—with larger bucket options—than a 16-tonne machine, yet burns the same amount of fuel as 16-tonne machines. The 318F L is a viable alternative to the 320F for users who frequently move from job to job and prefer an easy-to-transport machine.
