Cat® Dealer Al-Bahar and Caterpillar Showcase Power Solutions at Middle East Energy

For Worldwide Release: February 18, 2013
Release Number: EEPR0113

DUBAI, UNITED ARAB EMIRATES – Cat® dealer Mohamed Abdulrahman Al-Bahar and Caterpillar Inc. today announced the innovative power solutions on display at Middle East Electricity this week. Held in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, Middle East Electricity is one of the region’s largest trade shows dedicated to the power sector.

Visitors to the Al-Bahar and Caterpillar display at Stand S2C10 will see the Middle East debut of the new Cat C175-20, which has already been selected for several multiple megawatt installations in the region. Available for orders in 2012 with deliveries starting in the second quarter of 2013, the C175-20 produces the largest power output of any single high-speed diesel generator set available on the market.

An extension of the industry-proven C175-16, the C175-20 offers the same class-leading efficiency delivered from a high power density that generates more power from a smaller footprint that competing generator sets.  This high power density is a key benefit for standby power at large, mission-critical installations where reliability, durability and dependability are essential, such as data centers, hospitals, airports, and black start applications for utilities. A single 4 MW C175-20 represents a 55 percent reduction in footprint when compared with two high-speed 2 MW 3516B generator sets, significantly reducing installation costs and freeing up floor space for other uses.

Recognizing the harsh conditions and critical need for reliable power faced by customers in the region, Caterpillar stands behind the C175-20 and every other diesel standby generator set above 1 MW with extended four-year platinum coverage available in Europe, Africa, the Middle East, Russia and CIS that covers 100 percent of parts and labor and helps customers avoid unexpected costs for unscheduled repairs.

Al-Bahar and Caterpillar will also feature innovative, high-efficiency hybrid power systems that combine renewable resources such as solar photovoltaic arrays, wind turbines, robust long-life batteries, diesel or gas generator sets, and highly efficient power electronics. By optimizing the usage of available renewable resources and operating the generator set at peak efficiency points, hybrid power systems provide breakthrough reductions in total owning and operating costs, substantially decrease fuel consumption and maximize system reliability. Particularly well-suited for telecommunications and other applications in remote areas where electric utility service does not exist, hybrid power systems can be customized to meet individual project specifications, providing customers with exactly what they need.

Founded in 1937, Mohamed Abdulrahman Al-Bahar offers customized solutions for power system requirements; the region’s highest full-fill-first-pick availability of spare parts; and best-in-class service support that includes workshop and field service, fabrication, maintenance and repair contracts, and training. Together, Al-Bahar and Caterpillar supply everything project engineers need to properly configure, install and operate complete, integrated power solutions for large-scale infrastructure projects — utilities, hospitals, airports, rail stations — as well as other applications.

Caterpillar and its global dealer network offer total power solutions, which include a comprehensive line-up of generator sets from 10 kW to 14,000 kW, UPS systems, containerised and critical power modules, controls, and switchgear to meet any and every power need. Cat rental power solutions provide a turnkey total solution, including equipment mobilisation, importation, delivery, site preparation, permitting, installation, commissioning, grid interconnection, site operation and performance, and equipment removal.
