Breathtaking views and the tropical climate of the Eastern Caribbean are magnets for affluent individuals seeking the highest quality residential living space and vacation accommodations.
Interlink is the leading resort, hotel and highend residential developer in the Caribbean, creating unique communities that enhance the value of these properties while thriving in harmony with nature. Since 1977, Interlink has undertaken projects worth $2.2 billion, including the first AAA five-diamond hotel in the Caribbean as well as Puerto Rico’s first master-planned residential community.
Given the threat of hurricanes and severe weather, standby power is a necessity for life on the islands, and Interlink customers demand that they never be without power.
“Our customers own million dollar homes and insist on the best of everything,” said Edwin Semidey, project engineer for Interlink. “Their expectations are high, and we must deliver top quality products and services to meet their needs.”
Over the past five years, Interlink has selected 14 Cat® and Olympian™ generator sets from 17 to 75 kW as well as Cat Automatic Transfer Switches (ATS) to provide reliable standby power for customer residences and construction facilities.
Complete standby power systems from Caterpillar have also been selected for 26 new luxury homes under construction in the Bahia Beach Resort, located on 483 acres of a former coconut plantation in Rio Grande, Puerto Rico. Once complete, this resort/ residential community will be the first fivestar resort in Puerto Rico.
RIMCO, the local Cat Dealer in Puerto Rico, supplies the power equipment, and Interlink technicians install the units at customer sites. Once installed, RIMCO provides ongoing maintenance services for residents, which often includes routine service inspections and parts delivery to ensure the generator sets will operate when needed.
Since residents often do not wish to view the generator sets on their property, Interlink builds engine rooms with sound-attenuating padding at the back of the residences to ensure the quietest operation possible. Landscaping around the engine room further blends the power equipment into the scenery.
Each unit is equipped with Cat Automatic Transfer Switch (ATS), a critical component that provides residential customers with safety, reliability and simplified maintenance. An ATS starts the generator when a power outage occurs and breaks the connection to the primary power source. When utility power is restored, the ATS automatically transfers back to utility power and turns off the generator.
“Project after project, two principal reasons have driven us to select Cat and Olympian generator sets to provide standby power for our clients,” explained Steven Hernandez, project engineer for Interlink. “These products meet the highest standards for quality, and RIMCO supports them with exceptional service.”
Interlink clients can enjoy island life to the fullest without worrying about the disruption caused by power outages.
“Since we began installing these standby units, our clients have not experienced an extended loss of power due to a hurricane or any other emergency,” Hernandez noted. “However, we do have occasional, unexpected interruptions in service from the local utility, and our customers can always count on their Cat and Olympian units for the power they need.”
“These generator sets give us peace of mind, and we enthusiastically recommend RIMCO and these products to our customers,” Semidey added. Semidey also appreciates the value of RIMCO working directly with Interlink clients for ongoing service and maintenance.
“Using RIMCO provides significant cost savings to our business, since we don’t need to hire our own technician to perform maintenance on our clients’ generator sets,” Semidey noted. “Our partnership with RIMCO is successful because they provide quality Cat products and outstanding customer service that matches our own.”
