You consider the safety of your workers a top priority. And we’re doing our best to help you meet your safety goals. Caterpillar considers the safety of everyone in, on or around Cat equipment when we develop new products or enhanced safety features for existing products. When it comes to Cat® large dozers, we’ve made a number of significant safety enhancements over our 40-year history.
We’ve improved access and egress with rear access platforms, guard rails, and strategically placed grab handles and steps to reduce slips and falls. The platform provides access to the rear window for cleaning and repairing rear-mounted lights. The walkway is a modular design so varying lengths can be used to meet unique needs. Strategically placed anchorage points help operators and technicians work safely at heights on the machine.
An optional powered access system provides excellent access and egress in wet or freezing conditions. The ladder deploys and stores in seconds, and a warning alarm will sound if the parking brake is released or the blade is raised when the ladder is down.
The operator environment is also enhanced to improve safety. Various glass options resist penetration and provide additional protection in applications where there is a risk of projectiles or falling objects. A seat belt warning system reminds the operator with an LCD icon to engage the seat belt anytime the key is on. If the operator still does not engage the seat belt and places the machine in gear, a chirping sound will be initiated. The standard Operator Not Present monitoring system is contained within the bottom cushion of the operator seat. This feature locks out the powertrain and hydraulics under certain conditions to prevent unintentional movement when the operator is not in the seat.
A number of enhancements improve visibility. A tapered hood, notched fuel tank and narrow ripper carriage give the operator a clear line of sight to
Visibility is further enhanced with the addition of the Cat MineStar™ Detect Object Detection system. It adds radar capabilities to dozers to boost awareness of what’s happening around the machine. It automatically detects and alerts operators to potential hazards in front, behind and within the turning radius on each side of the machine. It also highlights specific views to show operators where potential hazards are located.
Another Detect capability, the Driver Safety System, helps manage operator fatigue and distraction. Specialized in-cab equipment and technology monitor operator eye and head movement, then vibrate the seat or sound an alarm when fatigue or distraction occurs.
