More and more we see requests for Tier 4 Final or EU Stage IV options on our underground equipment to satisfy a growing need to improve the underground environment for workers. The good news is there are alternatives, and they can reduce emissions to a level below what’s required for Tier 4 Final.
For Cat® Underground Mining hard rock vehicles, we developed a Ventilation Reduction (VR) engine that can be combined with diesel particulate filters to drastically reduce particulate matter. Cat Tier 3 engines have done a great job of meeting Nox reduction targets as required by regulations – but particulate matter rises as NOx comes down. This is precisely what our VR engine addresses - it offers low Nox emissions but also reduces diesel particulate matter. Combine this engine with our diesel filtration solutions and technology and you have a very clean running machine.

FROM DRAWING BOARD DESIGNS TO MEETING THE CUSTOMER'S DEMAND
In 2016, world-leading resources company BHP mandated that its underground operations use only machines that meet Tier 4 Final emissions regulations.
