How using telematics technology can help you manage not only your equipment, but also your business.

When you’re managing a fleet of snow and ice removal equipment, every minute counts. You need to know where each machine is deployed, make sure they’re running efficiently, and have all the information at your fingertips to keep your operation moving smoothly – no matter what mother nature throws your way.
Fleet management is a set of tools that give snow and ice removal contractors the ability to quickly answer questions about their machines. This technology solution is helpful for contractors who have equipment spread out geographically. Perhaps you have a set of machines that only run when it’s actively snowing, or you have equipment set up in different locations based on snow removal contracts for the season. Fleet management tools might be a great addition to your business.
Fleet management tools help you keep track of the locations of all your machines, but they can also offer so much more:
There are many fleet management options out there, but if you own Cat equipment you have access to some unique and powerful tools.
When you purchase a new Cat machine you’ll have up to 12 years of access to My.Cat.Com and the Cat App. These are both complimentary monitoring offerings to help you track assets and manage maintenance planning. What’s the difference between the two? My.Cat.Com is the PC-based platform and the Cat App is a light-weight, on-the-go version. With these complimentary offerings you’ll get once per day reporting on your equipment. These fleet management tools are tailored specifically to customers with smaller fleets, and are great options for many snow and ice removal contractors.
Need to go a bit deeper with your equipment data? Have a larger fleet? Need higher reporting frequency? If you’re looking for an upgrade, we also offer a subscription-based telematics software known as VisionLink®. With this option, you can work with your Cat dealer to configure and customize exactly what you need to optimize your fleet and drive additional profit.
If you’re operating used or rental equipment – we have programs to support activation of the complimentary fleet management offerings. Be sure to ask your Cat dealer for more information.
The great thing about Caterpillar’s fleet management technology is that it is compatible with mixed fleets. Our solutions allow you to visualize your new Cat assets, non-Cat assets, and older Cat assets and pull them all into one interface to monitor together.
With all the options out there, what’s unique about the suite of Cat fleet management tools out there? When you activate telematics options from Caterpillar, you get access to extra features and benefits within the Cat network. It’s a full, well-rounded solution all within one interface. For example, you have access to things like Cat SOS℠ Services fluid analysis samples and results, inspection records, and online parts ordering. Through My.Cat.Com you can populate EPP and CVA information and access service and rental history all in one place with participating dealers. This additional data helps you have a full overview of your business’s spend data, which makes these tools so much more than simply monitoring equipment locations.
As we approach the winter months again, make sure you’re entering this season with a fleet management plan. If you’re looking for a solution to manage not only your fleet but also your business, know that you can do that in partnership with your Cat dealer – we’re here to help you succeed!
