Caterpillar Wins Prestigious European Media Award

For Worldwide Release: May 11, 2015
Release Number: EEPR1115

PEORIA, IL – Caterpillar Inc. today announced that it received an international intermedia-globe 2015 Gold Award at the recently-held WorldMediaFestival in Hamburg, Germany for its Modular Power Plant product video.

Produced by Caterpillar Energy Solutions GmbH in Manheim, Germany, and production partner Motionplan GmbH & Co. KG, “Cat® Modular Power Plant – The Modern Energy Solution” depicts how the new power plant is constructed on-site in just 12 days.

Featuring dynamic 3D animation graphics and real-life product footage, the video demonstrates how the power plant, with its new compact design, is delivered in pre-manufactured standard ISO containers and constructed in almost any part of the world.

“The combination of real pictures and animated 3D images convinced the jury,” said Marcus Seip, CEO of Motionplan.  “The real scenes helped verify the 3D animated pictures and thus imparted authenticity. This is especially important from a sales perspective.”

Since 2000, WorldMediaFestival has held a global competition dedicated to recognizing excellence in corporate film, television, web and print production.  “This year, over 700 films from 35 countries were entered in this international competition for communications professionals, so it is quite an honor for our team to win this award,” commented Frank Fuhrmann, film producer and news media consultant, Caterpillar Energy Solutions GmbH.

“This video is a perfect medium to demonstrate Caterpillar’s capability in supplying dependable, eco-friendly heat and power from a compact, module power plant wherever it is needed,” said Willy Schumacher, general manager, Caterpillar Energy Solutions.

These newly-designed modular energy solutions are complete power stations equipped with all the components and auxiliaries required for combined heat and power generation.  Each system is prefabricated for optimized scalability and anchored by a Cat® CG260 generator set, which runs on all natural gas and biogas applications.  The modules can be expanded step-by-step to accommodate six units delivering a rated output of up to 25.8 MW of power.

Ideally suited for areas with limited support infrastructure, this modular system for decentralized power supply meets the highest international standards with a total energy efficiency of over 86 percent.
