Caterpillar to exhibit at Richmond Expo

Caterpillar will exhibit this week at the East Coast Sawmill and Logging Equipment Exposition, also known as the Richmond Expo. The biennial trade show will be held May 13-14 at the Richmond Raceway Complex in Richmond, Virginia.

The Richmond Expo will be 2016's largest collection of sawmill, logging, pallet and related manufacturing equipment, supplies and services in the Eastern U.S., according to organizers.

Four Cat® dealers will have a presence at the event: Carter Machinery, Alban Cat, Cleveland Brothers Cat, and Gregory Poole Cat.

Caterpillar will exhibit three knuckleboom loaders with delimbing packages, a Cat 563C wheel feller buncher with new HFW232 saw head, a Cat 545D skidder, and a Cat 586C site prep tractor with HM825 mulcher attachment. A pair of wheel loaders and a dozer also will be exhibited, and the company will demonstrate its track feller buncher simulator.

The Cat 545D skidder will feature the new Cat Active Ride Management seat suspension system. The revolutionary seat suspension technology will provide unmatched comfort for machine operators and help improve the bottom line for logging contractors.

The Caterpillar Loader Championship contest, to be held both days, will feature a Cat 559C knuckleboom loader provided by Carter Machinery. Contestants demonstrate their skill with the loader by picking up blocks of wood and moving them between two checkerboards. Loggers with the fastest times are the winners. The Caterpillar Loader Championship benefits Log-A-Load for Kids, which raises funds for hospitals associated with the Children’s Miracle Network.

The exposition is co-sponsored by the Virginia Forest Products Association and the Cooperative Extension Service at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University. It will feature over one-half million square feet of indoor and outdoor exhibit space of exhibits, static displays, and active equipment demonstrations on more than 12 acres. The event is expected to draw about 6,000 visitors.
