Engine Design

The CM46DF features a world-class reliable and durable medium speed long-stroke engine design. It has a compact cylinder head design as well as a nodular cast-iron block with integrated ducts for lubricating oil and charge air/ The engine design is based on the higher requirements of crude oil for the offshore industry. The miller cycle and high efficiency turbo charger enables lower combustion temperature, avoiding knocking at high load or low methane type fuels. The CM46DF has cylinder balancing to increase safety margin against knocking. It is designed to be a compact module for lower valve drives and injection pump drives with cam followers. This flexible camshaft technology optimizes valve operation to maintain low emissions as well as control valve timing for optimal efficiency and wider operating range avoiding knocking and misfiring.
