Like engines, electrical generators must meet load demands. While engines provide mechanical power, generators influence kVA and voltage control. Electric motors draw starting currents two to eight times the normal running current. They may not start or may run at reduced speeds if excessively loaded. Each motor is selected for particular characteristics, each of which represents different types of starting and running loads.
