For more than seven decades, S.C. Heinrich & Co. has been a name synonymous with hard work, integrity, and family. Founded in 1954 by Stan Heinrich with just a truck and a shovel, the company has grown from humble beginnings in South Australia’s Clare Valley into a thriving, multi-generational earthmoving and transport operation — now led by Stan’s son, Malcolm Heinrich, and grandson, Alex Heinrich.
“It was very hard work back in those days,” Malcolm said. “We still have the same ethics today — a fair day’s work for a fair day’s pay. Don’t rip anyone off and be honest. You’ll always get your next job if you do a good job.”
That work ethic has kept the business strong for 72 years — and counting. What started as one man’s determination has evolved into a legacy built on reliability, loyalty, and a shared love for Cat® equipment. From their first loader in 1968 to a fleet of more than 150 Cat machines today, the partnership between S.C. Heinrich & Co. and Cat has become part of the company’s DNA.
“Caterpillar machines are part of our family,” Malcolm says. “They’re tough, reliable, and the support from Cavpower has been brilliant for decades. Even the old machines still run strong.”
As the third generation steps up, Malcom’s children, Alex, Sally-Anne and Samuel Heinrich are carrying that legacy forward while embracing new technology to keep the business moving into the future. With tools like VisionLink®, GPS and UTS systems, and Cat-powered crushing plants, S.C. Heinrich & Co. is balancing tradition with innovation. The company recently earned ISO accreditation for sustainability, reinforcing its commitment to both people and the planet.
“We’re learning and growing,” Alex shares. “Technology and training are key for the next generation. Caterpillar and Cavpower will be a big part of that future.”
From one truck and a shovel to a 150-strong Cat fleet, the Heinrich family’s story is a testament to the power of hard work, honesty, and great partnership.
