Pinto & Braz: The Legacy of a Man and His Cat® Track Loader

In 1964, Joaquim Braz bought a Cat® 933F track loader from his local dealer, STET. It was the first machine he acquired for his construction business, Pinto & Braz—and it’s still running today, more than 60 years later.

Pinto & Braz, Lda started small, but it has grown to become a leader in civil construction and public works with a strong reputation for innovation, reliability, and quality. Today it boasts roughly 50 employees, but it’s still a family-run business, now managed by Joaquim’s son, Diamantino Braz.

Building Better Local Infrastructure

Over the decades, Pinto & Braz has supported numerous complex projects that have directly benefited the communities they work in. One the team is especially proud of was the installation of a vacuum sewerage system in Montemor-o-Velho.

“The vacuum sewerage system brought a significant improvement to the population's quality of life,” Diamantino Braz shared. “It’s a modern and efficient alternative to traditional gravity sewage.” The new system is also a more sustainable wastewater solution. It uses negative pressure to move water through the pipes, “reducing the need for large excavations and the installation of pumping stations,” minimizing the overall environmental impact of the project.

One Track Loader to a Full Fleet

As Pinto & Braz has grown over the years, so has their fleet of Cat machines, which now includes excavators, wheel and track loaders, and backhoe loaders. When asked why he continues to count on Cat equipment after all these years, Joaquim’s answer is simple. “Cat is Cat. All the rest are just copies,” he insists. “There might be different opinions, of course, but I have experience with Cat and I know it’s an excellent machine.”

STET also continues to play a key role in Pinto & Braz’s business, providing support, parts and after-sales care that has helped keep his machines, including that original 933F, in top shape year after year.

Thousands of operation hours later, and even with the addition of new, more modern machines, there’s still something special about the one that started it all. “My favorite is the 933F, because it was the first machine we ever bought,” he says, fondly. It serves as a reminder of where Pinto & Braz started and how far their hard work and expertise has brought them.
