When the devastating "Black Summer" bushfires hit Australia, Anthony and Peta Oldfields witnessed firsthand the dangers that overgrown land can pose. “We were surrounded by bushes,” Peta explained. “We started looking at other people's properties and how the upkeep just wasn't there. They were finding fire engines couldn't get through because of trees.” That’s when they decided to pivot their earthmoving business, Oldfields Australia, to focus on land clearing— they wanted to assist others in safeguarding their properties and homes against future bush fires.
Expanding their offerings meant expanding their equipment. The Oldfields had an old, second-hand 289D compact track loader that they’d acquired when they bought the earthmoving business in 2018. With the help of WesTrac Cat®, they decided on a Cat HM315C mulcher attachment that would turn their track loader into a bush-clearing machine.
According to Anthony, arriving to a jobsite with a Cat machine and mulcher makes a huge difference: “Just about every earthmoving business out there has a basic machine with a bucket, but having the Cat mulcher really puts us in our own league.”
The Oldfields called up WesTrac Cat again in 2020, when their aging 289D broke down. Rather than repairing the old loader, they decided it was time to invest in a new one. Peta recalls thinking, “We need a reliable machine. We need something bigger and better.” After reviewing their options, the pair ultimately took home a Cat 299D3 XE.
Now, equipped with their new Cat loader, their business is thriving. “The neighbors see the results right in front of them. Then another neighbor asks, ‘Can you do that?’ So, we’re back in a couple of weeks.”
“Not having to concern myself with a machine breaking down is a blessing for our family,” Anthony said of dealing with unexpected breakdowns and maintenance. “[The Cat Customer Value Agreement] alleviates the stress of worrying about those issues. And I can come home as a happy dad.”
For the Oldfields, their work isn’t just about business—it’s about saving lives, creating a better future, and being part of something larger. “It’s completely transformed the direction we were heading in,” Peta said. “It’s opened so many opportunities. The girls are happy, Anthony's happy, I'm happy. And we’re part of Team Yellow.”
