Read on to find out what a jobsite and a racetrack have in common.
Jack Miller has been around Cat® equipment and motorcycles since he was about three years old. He represented the Cat brand on the global stage while racing with the Ducati Team at the 2021 MotoGP World Championship.
This partnership showcased the Cat brand through more than 20 internationally televised races to an estimated audience of 400 million. It was a unique way for the Cat brand to connect with MotoGP enthusiasts and the motorsports community, as well as Cat owners and operators throughout the world.
Jack grew up on a farm in Townsville, Australia, where he first started riding motorcycles. “I immediately fell in love with motor racing and competed on dirt tracks until I was about 14 before deciding to give road racing a try with Moto3 in 2009. After that I went straight to MotoGP in 2015. I’m proud to be the only person to do that.”
Jack is just as passionate about Cat machines as he is about motorcycle racing. “I’ve been a Cat fan my whole life. I remember being at my grandfather’s property in New Zealand, where he had an old D3 that must have been from the 1940s. I would sit next to him all day thinking how cool it would be to drive something like that one day.”
In January 2021, that day finally came. His family took delivery of a new Cat D3 dozer from Cat dealer Hastings Deering. Unfortunately, Jack was unable to be there due to racing commitments. “Hastings Deering was absolutely fantastic,” said Jack. “I received a lot of updates and photos of the machine being built right through to when it was delivered and even when they handed over the keys at my house. They really kept me informed.” The D3 will be put to good use on the farm for a variety of tasks and jobs.
While in Malaga, Jack got to get his hands on Cat Command, which allows an operator to run a machine remotely.

While in Europe for the kick-off of the 2021 MotoGP season, Jack stopped by the Caterpillar Malaga Demonstration and Learning Center (MDLC) in Spain. There, he was able to test a range of machines, as well as getting some saddle time in a simulator. “The MDLC was a great experience. The feedback I got from people who really know Caterpillar and Cat machines was great. As a motorbike rider, I was just trying to learn and absorb what they know. Many elements of racing on a MotoGP track and operating machines are similar. Safety is always important, but you are also chasing the details of how to best operate the machine, finding the best lines and trying to make everything effortless. It’s all about the best possible finish.”
Jack and the Ducati Team had high expectations coming into the 2021 season. There was a lot of pressure to perform, but they set a realistic goal of fighting for the championship. “To be a Cat ambassador is a dream come true and a massive honor. To be aligned with a company that has so much history and such great products, the possibilities are endless. I feel so fortunate to be in this position and to be able to work with the great people at Caterpillar.”
