Next Gen Cat® Telehandlers put you in control by featuring three intuitive steering modes designed to tackle tough jobsite conditions. Front-wheel steer, circle steer and crab steer let operators move through tight spaces, adjust quickly on the jobsite and position the machine with precision. The Cat TH0642, TH0842, TH1055 and TH1255 models all feature these flexible steering options, making operation easier and more efficient from start to finish.
Explore how front-wheel steer, circle steer and crab steer work, and when to use each for better control and maneuverability. Operators can easily switch between modes right from the cab by pressing the steering mode switch. Just remember to square the wheels before changing modes.
Front-wheel steer is the simplest mode, where only the two front wheels steer the machine. This mode operates much like a car, making it ideal for driving the telehandler on roads or open areas where tight turning isn’t necessary.
Circle steer engages both the front and rear wheels, which turn in opposite directions to provide a much tighter turning radius. This mode is perfect for working in confined spaces, tight areas or driving around obstacles in a jobsite. It gives operators enhanced maneuverability for precise control to get the job done right. Keep in mind that when making full turns, the ends of the telehandler may extend beyond the turning radius.
Crab steer allows all four wheels to turn in the same direction, enabling the telehandler to move diagonally. This mode is especially useful when working near walls or in tight spaces, helping operators place the machine exactly where it’s needed. However, crab steer should only be used for positioning and not for traveling long distances.
Next Gen Cat Telehandlers are built to handle a wide range of tasks with ease, thanks to their versatile steering modes and powerful performance. Whether you’re moving materials or working in tight spaces, these machines deliver the control and precision you need to get the job done right.
Cat® Equipment Management gives you access to all the data you need to keep your equipment on the jobsite and earning money. You can track equipment location and hours, monitor machine use and health, then take informed action that will keep your operation running smoothly, efficiently and profitably.
