TUCSON, Ariz., September 21, 2024 – Skid-mounted with integrated forklift eyes, the Cat® MEC500 Mobile Equipment Charger is efficiently moved to where the equipment is working to deliver a charge where the work is. It provides an alternative to expensive static charging infrastructure, additional batteries, and battery handling and swapping. With its 500-kW charging and connector capability, the MEC500 offers a range of 300- to 1,000-volt and up to 700 Amp current output. A single MEC500 fully charges the battery-electric R1700 XE LHD underground loader in less than 30 minutes, or ultrafast charging in less than 20 minutes is provided by connecting two units in parallel.

• The MEC500 automatically recognizes the R1700 XE and all charging functions can be managed from a keypad at the MEC500 or the loader
• Battery-powered vehicle management system dictates the exact amount of charge needed throughout the cycle to optimize battery longevity
• Charging port on the R1700 XE continuously senses the temperature, voltage and current to detect potential problems
• A 6-function keypad manages charging, and the charger performs short-circuit and insulation-resistance checks on the cable prior to energizing the output
• Available in 10- or 15-m (32.8- or 49.2-ft) lengths, the patented lightweight military-grade aluminum Cat charging cable is metal jacketed for extra mechanical and electrical protection
• Isolation mounted to the skid base, MEC500 and electronic control modules are built to withstand high vibration, seismic and shock loading experienced in the underground operating environment
• Designed to meet the IP66 standard, critical components, including where the electrical input-output connections are made, are protected from water and dust infiltration
• Wide range of altitude operating capabilities from 3600 m (11,800 ft) above ground to 4500 m (14,700 ft) below ground
