Building Toilets in Panna

Cat customers and dealers work to help make changes for the better, in any way they can. Cat customers work on projects which are aimed at building the future of the nation as well as those that address issues needing immediate attention. That was definitely the case with the Built For It™ Trials LIVE: India. On this incredible journey, the 424B travelled from one corner of Madhya Pradesh to another, working on projects of all sizes.

When the backhoe arrived at Panna district of Madhya Pradesh, Cat® machines were already at work in the area, contributing to one of the most ambitious projects currently underway in the country. Cat customers are helping lay optical fibre cables across the state as a part of the Digital India project. This will connect millions of villagers to the world through the internet. However, the women of the village of Kamtana had another, more pressing problem.

There are over two hundred households in the village of Kamtana and not a single toilet. This means that often the women have to go into the fields, where they are at risk of being attacked by stray dogs, snakes and worse. This has proved to be both unsanitary and unsafe.

Cat dealers in the area spoke to the locals about their need for toilets. By working with the people of the village, we were able to find a spot where the 424B would be able to build toilets. This also involved installing a proper sewage and sanitary system—a tough job, for which the efficient and agile 424B was a perfect fit. Caterpillar and its dealers put together a dedicated workforce that helped the backhoe finish the task in just a few days.

See for yourself how overjoyed the women of the village were to get proper toilets. Together Caterpillar and the local dealers were able to bring safety and sanitation to the women of Kamtana.
