Progress is a continuous process. Cat® products began working in India more than 60 years ago, with involvement in projects such as Hirakud and Bhakra Dams. Work continues today in rural villages across the country as our customers build roads, ponds, playgrounds and so much more.
Cat dealers and customers are working to build a new India with the help of Cat products, one milestone at a time. The Built For It™ Trials LIVE: India documents the making of these milestones.
Cat customers have been hard at work in Ujjain, in preparation for the Kumbh Mela—the largest peaceful gathering of people on the planet. Ujjain hosts this monumental event once every twelve years. Over 50 million pilgrims flock to the festival. Many of these visitors take a holy dip in the Shipra River—an important ritual known as the Kumbh Snan. Only, the riverbanks can no longer accommodate the growing crowds.
Cat products have been an important part of the work to extend the ghats of the Shipra River, making room for the expected millions. However, there was another problem. With visitors flooding the riverbanks, the women pilgrims have no room to change after they take the holy dip. It’s an awkward situation. How could the 424B provide the women with some privacy and safety in the midst of massive crowds?
During the first stop in the Built For It Trials LIVE: India, the backhoe worked to help the women pilgrims visiting Ujjain, by providing changing rooms for them. But the job wasn’t done alone. While the machine provided the muscle to install the structures, Cat dealers helped mobilize the project by drawing on local resources and bringing people from the villages together.
