How to Install Cat® LED Side Lights

Caterpillar offers a variety of upgrade kits you can install yourself. One option is an LED side lights kit, designed to improve visibility on the jobsite.

In the video below, we’re working on a Cat® 299D3 Compact Track Loader. While installation steps should be similar for other equipment, you should always check with your Cat dealer for machine-specific instructions.

   

 

 

Before starting the installation, always review the Operation and Maintenance Manual (OMM) for proper safety procedures. Remember to wear appropriate personal protective equipment.

Move your machine to a dry, level surface. Lower implements to the ground, lock out the hydraulics and turn off the equipment.

Step 1: Assemble the Lights

  1. Snap the endcaps onto the lightbar.

  2. Unscrew the capscrew and remove the knob.

  3. Install the brackets using the knob and capscrew. Ensure the bracket is on the harness end of the lightbar.

  4. Align the knob with the bracket holes, confirm it is fully seated and tighten the capscrews.

Use the screw, bumper and locknut to assemble the light bracket. Cut the cap as needed, apply grease to the inside and put it in place.

Connect the Harness

  1. Connect the bead to the lighting harness assembly.

  2. Attach the two-pin plug on the longer lead of the harness assembly to the side light harness.

  3. Unplug the existing harness from the back of the front work light.

  4. Install the cable strap through the hole in the cab roof, leaving a loop to feed the harness through.

Step 3: Install the Assembled Light Group

  1. Remove the existing bolts and washers.

  2. Install the assembled light group.

  3. Route the harness under the bracket and around the bumper.

  4. Tighten the bolts securely.

Once these steps are complete, your LED side lights kit is installed and ready to use.
