Ace Cat^® Engine Air Filter Replacement Timing

First, move your machine to a dry, level surface. Lower implements to the ground, lock out the hydraulics and turn off the engine.

Some Cat^® dozers come equipped with a fully integrated, maintenance-free remaining useful life (RUL) sensor for your engine air filter. Instead of you waiting for obvious signs that something's wrong, the system will notify you that the Cat air filter needs replacement. You can prevent premature replacements and keep your equipment in better condition, while lowering total cost of ownership.

How Does Cat Engine Air Filter RUL Work?

• A factory-installed sensor on the engine air filter housing continuously monitors the pressure differential, which increases as the filter collects more debris.
• The sensor automatically detects new filters, so you don’t need to reset anything manually.
• To check your filter’s remaining useful life, just open the service menu on your monitor and tap the RUL bar.

What to Expect as the Filter Ages

When a new filter is installed, the RUL percentage resets to 100%. As the filter captures contaminants during operating hours, the percentage begins to drop.

At 30% remaining useful life, you’ll see a “service soon” message. This is your reminder to order a new filter through your Cat dealer or Parts.Cat.com.

At 10% remaining useful life, the “service required” alert will appear, signaling it’s time to replace the filter.

Filter maintenance tip: Engine filter maintenance doesn’t involve taking out the filters. Instead, squeeze the debris evacuation port and clean the precleaner. Never clean the primary or secondary filters because damage of any sort or size can be a risk to your engine.

Filter replacement tip: Before installing a new filter, wipe down the exterior and interior of the filter assembly to remove dust or debris.
