FORTY YEARS OF INNOVATION

Metso Lokotrack® originated in 1985 with two Finnish contractors, Mauno Vuorsola and Olavi Puputti. Wanting to simplify and transform their rock-crushing operation, they developed a crawler-mounted cone crusher for a two-stage crushing and screening plant. Vuorsola and Puputti pitched their new model to Metso, and the rest is history. Lokotrack® is now one of the most recognised names in mobile crushers.

“Everybody knows Lokotrack because we were the first ones who started the serial production of crushers on top of a track-mounted platform,” says Lokotrack Product Manager Janne Lahtela. “Our customers have been bringing our machines to where they work for decades now.”

MOVING HYBRID TECHNOLOGY FORWARD

Known for mobility and high-quality crushing, Lokotrack crushers and screeners eliminate the need for transporting rock or demolition waste to a separate location. Launched last year, the new diesel-electric EC range features the Lokotrack® LT400J and Lokotrack® LT350C, providing industry-leading reliability and performance with robust design and advanced digital tools. Now, operations and maintenance run smoother than ever.

The LT400J is the first jaw crusher and the LT350C the first cone crusher in the Lokotrack EC family. With diesel-electric power and usability improvements, they meet the requirements of mobile crushing while reducing operating costs and CO2 emissions. Both the LT400J and the LT350C include cutting-edge innovations with electrically driven process functions and automated controls to continually perform at an optimal load level.

A DIVERSE RANGE OF CAT® POWER

Construction and mining industries rely on crushing for various applications, including aggregate production, demolition waste management and debris removal. A high-powered machine with extensive uptime capabilities is required to get the job done.

“Our Lokotrack range integrates with Caterpillar’s trusted engine technology, where we use a variety of engines from the C3.6 to the C18 to deliver flexibility across power demands, emission tiers and global-use cases,” says Lahtela.

The Cat® 3.6 industrial diesel engine balances compact size with reliability and performance. It delivers high torque and lower engine speed, making it the ideal engine for Lokotrack equipment. The C18 is a fully configurable engine with world-class manufacturing capability and processes, coupled with durability, reduced noise and extended runtime. Metso has also successfully utilized the C9.3B and C13B for the Lokotrack EC range power packs. The LT400J and LT350C both come with the C9.3B as the standard option, customers can opt for the C13B, which provides sufficient power to operate an e-power mobile screen with the same power pack, effectively achieving two functions with one unit.

Additionally, Metso’s Equipment Protection Service (EPS) contract now includes Cat engines. In addition to the EPS on Lokotrack machines, customers can get an Extended Service Contract (ESC) from Caterpillar to match the equipment warranty.

PARTNERING WITH PURPOSE

Metso and Caterpillar have amassed 36 years of collaboration. Together, the companies work to drive diesel and hybrid technology forward. Avesco Oy, Metso’s Cat dealer, has also helped optimise Lokotrack parameters for maximum efficiency when running on fixed RPM configurations.

“We’ve worked closely with Caterpillar and Avesco Oy to continually develop our machines and, more recently, to design custom cooling and air filtration layouts,” says Lahtela. “This kind of collaboration is how we’ve achieved key goals, like a three-metre transport width, which is essential for mobility.”

The close relationship with Avesco Oy, as well as the availability of the Caterpillar global support network, is key to keeping Metso’s mobile crushers and screeners working at full capacity. “By working with Caterpillar’s worldwide network, we can also support our customers wherever they are working,” adds Lahtela.

“By working with Caterpillar’s global dealer network, we can also support our customers wherever they are working.”
