Required Tooling

A mechanic's standard tools are sufficient for all of the alternator replacement steps described.

Before You Begin

  • Put on your personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Make sure you're ready for the steps ahead.
  • Pause the video when needed.
  • Be safe!

Removal Procedure

  1. Raise the bucket and install the cylinder lock. Open the engine hood.
  2. Remove the bolts and side panel. Repeat on the other side.
  3. Remove the right-side engine panel. For detailed instructions, check your Operation and Maintenance Manual (OMM).
  4. Disconnect the ground cable assembly to safely disconnect the batteries. Remove the alternator belts.
  5. Disconnect the harness assemblies. Remove the bolts, then the alternator.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the alternator and secure with bolts. Connect the harness assemblies. Reinstall the belts onto the alternator.
  2. Reconnect the ground cable assembly to reconnect the batteries.
  3. Install the right-side engine panel.
  4. Reinstall the side panel and bolts. Repeat on the other side.
  5. Remove the cylinder lock, lower the bucket and close the engine hood.
