Up-to-date tools and technical knowledge matter. Here’s the latest.
When trucks work harder, expectations get higher. Your customers demand accurate diagnostics, quick repairs and minimal downtime. What’s the key to moving fast and fixing problems right the first time? Access to the latest technical knowledge and tools designed specifically for Cat® truck engines. Take a look at what’s available now.
Recent service updates in the Caterpillar Service Information System (SIS 2.0) spotlight issues that commonly crop up under the strain of the busy season — and offer advice on how to handle them:
New cylinder head bolt torque procedure for 3400, C-15 and C15 engines: Refer to SENR9693, UENR3300 or RENR2306 for step-by-step guidance.
Coolant passage update for 3400, C-15 and C15 engines: Heads built after September 2024 feature a reduced coolant passage diameter (16.4 mm versus 19.0 mm). Be aware of this change when ordering or servicing heads.
Injector flash file fix for C7 and C9 engines: This fix eliminates false -7 codes that were incorrectly flagging injector failures. Don’t replace an injector before updating to this new flash file. Check document M0114609.
False air compressor failures: Many failures aren’t caused by defective compressors but by system-level issues instead. Reference REHS0121 and REHS4837 before ordering a new compressor. New tagging procedures are also available to help track installation and workmanship quality.
Correct backlash for on-highway engines: Inaccurate values have been published in the past, so make sure you’re using the correct spec: 0.216 ± 0.114 mm (0.0085 ± 0.0045 in) for 3400, C-15 and C15 engines.
Even without SIS 2.0, your shop can stay competitive by following these best practices:
Don’t jump to condemn the compressor. Many issues that appear to be compressor failures are actually system-related: low air pressure, leaks or sensor misreads.
Keep your torque specs current. Make sure your team is using the latest values, especially for high-failure components like heads and injectors.
Stay connected. Your authorized Cat dealer can help you verify part numbers, confirm torque specs and walk you through updated procedures.
Looking for an easy way to access the advanced tools that can reduce rework and build customer trust with consistent, high-quality service? Join our Target Independent Account (TIA) program. Level 2 members get full access to SIS 2.0 along with Electronic Technician (Cat ET).
SIS 2.0’s tech bulletins and interactive schematics help speed up troubleshooting, and mobile access via SIS2GO puts parts and service information at your fingertips. Take advantage of custom service information, part number identification, disassembly/assembly instructions and torque specifications to handle even complex repairs quickly.
Cat ET offers real-time engine monitoring and in-depth diagnostics — a big benefit during busy times. Use it to communicate with Cat truck engines to display status parameters, perform diagnostic tests and calibrations, view active diagnostic codes, record engine information, adjust electronic control module configuration and more.
Stock up on common repair kits and high-failure parts like compressors, gaskets, filters and injectors.
Train your techs on updated procedures and diagnostic tools.
Double-check your service scheduling to confirm you’re prepared to handle surges in demand.
This season, don’t just keep up. Get ahead. With access to SIS 2.0, Cat ET and the latest technical information, you’ll be set for busy times — ready to make accurate diagnoses, deliver quick turnarounds and reduce downtime for your Cat truck engine customers.
