Pantera™ DP1510i Drill Rig
Avesco Oy
Sandvik’s ever-evolving catalog of equipment for mining and rock excavation covers rock drilling, rock cutting, loading and hauling, tunneling and quarrying. Recently, the company showcased its Pantera™ DP1510i drill rig in Munich, Germany, at Bauma 2025, the world’s leading trade fair for construction machinery, building material machines, mining machines and construction vehicles.
The Pantera DP1510i is an intelligent, hydraulic, diesel-powered, self-propelled top hammer drill rig, specifically designed for large-hole drilling. It is best suited for production drilling in large quarries or open pit mines, construction jobsites and development projects. It provides higher power, lower fuel consumption, more uptime hours and a smoother flow of operation, no matter the terrain, environment or rock conditions.
With more than 2,500 units delivered since 2008, the Pantera DPi family is the market leader in top hammer production drilling in open pit mines, particularly, gold mines in the 89- to 178-millimeter (3.5- to 7-inch) hole size range.
To effectively meet the needs and spec requirements of the Pantera DP1510i, Sandvik upgraded its engine from the Cat® C11 to the Cat C9.3B. The Cat C9.3B delivers more power and torque compared to previous models, making it ideal for drill rigs and drilling applications. It’s also cleaner, lighter and occupies less engine space.
“Compared to the previous C11 engine, the C9.3B is more compact, which allows for a smarter internal configuration, delivering the high compressed air and hydraulic power we need,” says Sandvik Product Manager Jarno Viitaniemi. “We are now seeing roughly five to six litres per hour in fuel savings compared to other models in the market.”
The combination of advanced technical solutions, quality hardware and Cat engine power makes the Pantera DPi series drill rigs perfect machines for optimal drilling performance. Reduced fuel consumption increases long-term savings for customers while lower CO2 emissions are better for the environment.
Sandvik believes that sustainable business practices not only help foster a better future but also translate to better productivity and operator efficiency. Upgrading to the new Cat C9.3B allows the Pantera DP1510i to achieve higher productivity with lower fuel consumption and reduced noise, delivering an enhanced operator experience.
“When it comes to the operator, we have improved noise dampening. And with our ergonomic controls, comfort and safety features, they can feel more relaxed in the cab,” says Viitaniemi. “This helps them to stay focused during shifts.”
For more than 150 years, Sandvik has remained committed to developing the most advanced engineering solutions, from the production of its first steel products to today’s comprehensive equipment ranges. Sandvik depends on Caterpillar to provide reliable and durable engines with high-quality components and robust construction, as well as improved fuel efficiency. The support Caterpillar provides to remote drill locations through its global dealer network remains crucial to Sandvik’s continued success.
“We have used Caterpillar engines in our drills for more than 30 years,” says Viitaniemi. “Their reliability and worldwide dealer service network are key reasons we continue to rely on them.”
