Cat® Trucks: Bumper to Bumper Caterpillar

The individual components, software, systems and engine that go inside a Cat® large mining truck have different purposes but one very important thing in common: They are all manufactured by Caterpillar and supported by the Cat dealer network.

This integration ensures that the entire truck — from body to bumper, tires to transmission, engine to electronics — can be fully optimized to deliver the greatest efficiency and lowest cost per ton.

We call this “vertical integration,” and it adds significant value to your hauling operation. Integration goes beyond iron to the truck’s software and electronic architecture, which is the nerve system of the whole truck. Integration helps us optimize:

  • How the engine talks to the alternator
  • How the transmission talks to the final drive and differential.
  • How the tires interact with the ground.
  • How the speed-sensing components tell the engine and the transmission what to do.

The Caterpillar focus on optimization extends beyond software and components to options like truck bodies and tires. Because our trucks are 100% Cat, we understand the dynamics and know how they will interact with bodies and tires.  We pay attention to where loads are on the machine, optimizing weight distribution and extending tire life. We also work alongside tire manufacturers, simulating haul cycles, load-out areas and high-speed turns to ensure tires last as long as possible.

Every truck we make is designed to deliver a better bottom line. Whether you measure that in cost per ton, cost per unit of material moved, better Net Present Value or higher return on investment — our job is to optimize your hauling cycle.
