Apprenticeship Positions Give You the Chance to Learn and Earn

Many authorized Cat dealers offer apprentice positions. These positions are designed for individuals with a strong mechanical aptitude, who are graduating high school, exiting the military, or have other related education or work experience. Programs vary in length, typically 12 – 24 months, and quickly pave the way for an equipment technician career.

Apprentices work side by side with certified technicians who train and develop apprentices to accurately troubleshoot and diagnose diesel equipment problems, perform repairs, recondition and service heavy equipment and components. Apprentices who successfully complete these programs are often awarded a program certification and offered a position at the dealership.  Most Cat dealers offer ongoing education and development for their technicians so they can continue to grow in their career.

An apprenticeship is a great way to jump start your technician career. Get an education and build your skill set, all while being paid, receiving full-time benefits, and without incurring any secondary education expenses.

Common Requirements for Apprenticeship Applicants:
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Self-starter, motivated to improve
  • Strong work ethic & mechanical aptitude
  • Proficient with computers and basic software such as Microsoft Office
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Customer service skills
  • Physical requirements: ability to lift, carry and move items up to 70 lbs as well as repeatedly reach, stand, stoop, kneel , bend and climb.
