What steps should I take to get hired?

Yes! Cat dealers are hiring technicians of all skill levels, including entry level. That’s why they offer training programs for you to choose from so you can feel more confident on the job. See what programs are offered in the next question.

No matter your background or experience level, we’ll help you get started! Caterpillar offers a free online learning program, Technicians for the World, to teach you the basic understanding of Caterpillar equipment. You can also apply for a paid apprenticeship.

Not necessarily, but there are educational opportunities to help further your career. Work toward your associate degree through ThinkBIG, a two-year program. You’ll rotate between classroom work and a hands-on, paid internship at the program’s associated Cat dealer.

How can I grow as a Caterpillar technician?

Yes, there are pathways to advance your career — depending on your skill level and your dealer’s needs.

Mechanics are in constant demand across industries such as construction, agriculture, marine and more. Cat service technicians maintain and repair equipment that keeps our world moving. So, you get a career that makes a real difference every day, along with job stability.

What can I expect in terms of compensation and job details?

In addition to a competitive salary, you can expect a comprehensive benefits package including health insurance, retirement contributions and paid time off. Salary will vary by location.

No day is the same for a service technician. You might repair an engine on a wheel loader or diagnose electrical system issues on a dozer. What does remain the same are daily safety protocols and meeting with your team — practices that make sure your workplace is productive and safe.
