Frequently Asked Questions

What are signs I might need to replace my water pump?

If your Cat equipment is experiencing coolant leaks or frequent overheating, it could be time for a water pump replacement.

How do I inspect a water pump for leakage?

Perform a simple weep hole inspection. You can hold a rag at the weep hole or use a mirror and flashlight to look up into the weep hole. If you see more than a few drips of coolant, pressurize and inspect the system to determine the severity of leak.

NOTE: Always consult your machine's Operation & Maintenance Manual for specific instructions.

Is there anything I can do to extend water pump life?

Using Cat Extended Life Coolant can help you maintain cooling efficiency and reduce repair costs. It offers a 12,000-hour/six-year drain interval with recommended sampling suggested in your Operation & Maintenance Manual. The coolant system extender at mid-life (6,000 hours or three years) helps maintain coolant condition while protecting your machine.

Why should I choose a Cat water pump at replacement time?

Caterpillar manufactures water pumps from high-quality materials to help ensure they last in heavy-use applications. Replacement water pumps match the original specifications, so you won’t notice any difference in your machine’s performance. Cat water pumps also undergo rigorous testing to ensure their quality.
