How To Replace The Water Pump On A Cat Wheel Loader

Doing a wheel loader water pump replacement? With the right parts, tools and steps, you can tackle this repair yourself using this guide.

Skill Level: Moderate

These instructions are for a Cat 930K Wheel Loader. Steps should be similar on other models of small wheel loaders, but you can order the exact guide for your equipment. You’ll need some mechanical confidence but no specialized tools.

Recommended Parts

  • A water pump kit, which includes the pump and gasket.
  • Optional parts may also be required depending on the condition of your machine. Learn more in your equipment's Self-Service Options (SSO).

Before You Begin

  1. Put on your personal protective equipment (PPE).
  2. Read all the steps.

Water Pump Removal Procedure

First, the coolant needs to be flushed from the system. Refer to your Operation and Maintenance Manual (OMM) for proper coolant draining and storage procedures.

Let’s get started:

  1. Open the engine enclosure door.
  2. Remove the panel.
  3. Disconnect the hoses.
  4. Remove the bolts and water pump.
  5. Remove the gasket plate.
  6. Remove the bolts and cover.
  7. Remove the o-ring seal from the cover.

Water Pump Installation Procedure

  1. Install the water pump in the reverse order of removal.
  2. Tighten the bolts to a torque of 22 ± 3 N·m (195 ± 27 lb. in).
