Crankshaft Bearing Condition Monitoring System

The main approach to MaK performance and operational upgrades is to equip the engine with several components. This is so that the condition of the bearings and sliding surfaces of the crankshaft can be monitored.

The advantage is that this retrofit only takes a few hours and does not require significant machining of engine components like bearing shells or cylinder crankcases. Engine downtime is kept to a minimum.

The monitoring system makes it possible to detect and locate damage as it occurs since the engine's firing sequence is stored in the system along with other settings.

An evaluation unit in the control room graphically displays harmful changes in the measured values. It issues an alarm when the limit value of the detected thermoelectric voltage is exceeded. By receiving notifications about deviations, engine operators can make an immediately informed decision about the engine's further use or potential repair.

This minimizes the effort and cost of engine repair. In most cases, problems detected early on can be rectified during scheduled maintenance, making the monitoring system an essential and effective tool for preventing major engine damage.
